Taxes are with us every day and may not be very exciting, but they can excite you if you are the one paying them. On Tuesday, November 14, IOGAWV is co-sponsoring a seminar with Arnett Carbis Toothman (ACT) in which Don Nestor and his associates will cover all the federal, state and local taxes that we face in the oil and gas industry. The oil and gas experience of the ACT presenters spans from five to over 40 years. They will use this experience, in combination with current involvement in oil and gas transactions plus their participation in state and national oil and gas associations, to make this presentation as meaningful and useful as possible. This interactive seminar by various ACT associates will highlight specific tax topics and show you how each topic relates to current happenings in the industry and how they interact with each other. Planning will be emphasized and you will be able to ask specific questions or have input during the presentations. Presenters will also be available during the morning and afternoon breaks. A detailed outline of each technical session topic will be provided on site, including an extensive resource section with support for tax topics covered as well as general industry information such as a detailed glossary of industry terms and a listing of geological formations where gas and oil are produced.
At the beginning of the session, participants will have an opportunity to introduce themselves and explain what they do and what they hope to get from the session. Presenters will give a brief summary of what is happening in the oil and gas industry in the Appalachian area explaining what actually happens when leases are obtained, wells are drilled, and gas, oil and liquids are produced and sold. Detailed information will be provided concerning West Virginia income and production taxes based on presenter experience and recent meetings with the WV State Tax Commissioner and all Tax Department heads.
7.2 hours of CPE has been approved for WV and PA CPAs and 6.0 hours of CLE for Attorneys. During this time period, we will cover all tax topics for the oil and gas industry and how they interact with each other. In this critical time when the oil and gas industry is changing for all sizes of owners, operators and mineral owners, it is critical to understand where we are now, where we are going and to adjust as best we can with all the information we can find. This seminar will discuss all of these options and opportunities. This year, we will provide a forum for those who are very much involved in oil and gas tax, accounting and revenue distribution areas, giving them the key information they need to perform their jobs as well as possible. At the same time, for those who may not be as technically involved in certain topics, we will share information to help them understand better what is going on and to consider how they may fit into this very large and growing oil and gas industry. Our plan is to make this very beneficial for accountants, attorneys, bankers, insurance agents, royalty owners and investors. We also have found that this is an opportunity to meet others in the industry and to network at a very high level with very capable people. The cost for six hours of your time and the information you will receive is one of the best values you will find. The overall coverage of such a variety of technical topics for the oil and gas industry is not found in any other single location and definitely not in a one-day event such as this. Examples of specific topics to be covered during our current oil and gas economic situation include actions to consider instead of waiting for prices and demand to return, analysis of what you have, where it should be and who should own and control it now and in the future. Balancing owner desires and financial risk and bankruptcy potential for you and others will also be covered.

Registration will open at 8:00 a.m. at the Charleston Town Center Marriott, and the seminar will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The cost for the day is $150 for members and those employed by a member company and $250 for nonmembers.
